Jeremiah Peschka

A Brief Biography

Jeremiah Peschka is a SQL Server developer in the Columbus, OH area with HMB Information System Developers. Jeremiah has broad IT experience in systems administration, web design, application development, and database development spread across diverse platforms. This broad IT experience has given him exposure to a variety of situations and perspectives throughout his varied career. In his current role, Jeremiah specializes in developing solutions based on the SQL Server platform. Jeremiah is currently the Group Leader for CBusPASS, the Columbus chapter of PASS, and the Group Leader for the PASS Application Development Virtual Chapter. Additionally, Jeremiah serves on several committees within PASS and is an active community member, speaking at several local user groups and conferences. He has been known to blog, from time to time, at this very website where he concerns himself largely with the vagaries of T-SQL.

Outside of work and PASS, Jeremiah is an avid music fan, a voracious reader, occasional guitar slinger, and amateur food critic. Jeremiah is owned by two cats whose real names have been lost to the sands of time. Although he was recently recognized as a SQL Server MVP, Jeremiah does not think this will change the enjoyment he gets from writing about himself in the third person.

Why I Want to be a Board Member

In short: I think that there is a lot more that PASS can do to help the community and I firmly believe that I can lead us there.

PASS is a group of over 46,000 members spread between 182 chapters all across the planet. We are more than just the PASS Summit – we are a global community. In order to build our strength as a global community we need ways to connect on every level in the organization – chapter leaders, volunteers, and members. We’ve successfully started this process by setting up forums to help Summit attendees connect to share hotel rooms and coordinate travel arrangements. Over the next two years I would work to create avenues for all members to connect across all levels of the PASS organization.

PASS, as an organization, needs to coordinate with community leaders and the community at large to bring more events to the local and regional communities through the PASS Community Connection events and other SQL Server events (SQL Server Energy events and SQL Saturday). We need to focus on a clear mission of bringing knowledge and evangelizing SQL Server to the community at large.

Within PASS’s 46,000 members there is a wealth of knowledge and talent. Some members of the community spread their knowledge through speaking and writing. There are other members who want to get started speaking and writing but don’t know where to start. In addition to our efforts to create a speaker bureau, we need to encourage new speakers and new authors to share their knowledge. In order to do this, I would work with volunteers in the community to create speaking and writing mentors to help our aspiring presenters and authors get started.

Finally, we need to work to establish PASS as the recognized source for SQL Server knowledge, expertise, and training. PASS members possess a wealth of knowledge about SQL Server and we should combine our knowledge, skills, and efforts to reach this goal.
