Datawarehouse Partitioning
Presenter: Brian Knight
Tues: June 30th, 2009 12:00PM EST
Partitioned tables are tables whose data is horizontally divided into units which
may be spread across more than one file group in a database. Partitioning makes
large tables or indexes more manageable by letting you access or manage subsets of data quickly and efficiently, while maintaining the integrity of the overall collection. Within the data warehouse, fact tables are often good candidates for partitioning. This presentation will introduce table partitioning and
demonstrate strategies and methodologies for managing large fact tables using the partitioning capabilities of SQL Server 2005 and 2008.
